Family Leadership Training Institute

Bridging the gap between a family’s desire to improve conditions for children and the skills to do so.

The Family Leadership Training Institute (FLTI) is a 20-week course designed to help parents cultivate their leadership skills in order to positively impact children and communities.  With over 15 years of proven, result-based outcomes in the State of Connecticut, the FLTI program has been brought to AdamsCounty in order to enable parents and other adults to become leaders for children and local communities.  Participants are trained and supported as they develop their own leadership abilities and learn about government, community and civics.

FLTI focuses on:

  • Teaching and engaging parents to lead for children – theirs and others – to strengthen learning, health and safety for children.
  • Helping parents to become leaders in their communities through civic engagement.
  • Expanding and facilitating the capacity of parents to be change agents for children on a neighborhood, regional and state level.
  • Facilitating parental involvement in state and local policy and decision-making processes.
  • Increasing parent-child interactions and the quality of children’s programs through parental involvement.

FLTI training includes:

1)       A kick-off retreat to develop group communication:

2)       10 weeks of classes on self and perception of leadership:

3)       10 weeks of classes on government, policy and media:

4)       Support for each participant to develop and implement a Community Project of their choice.

5)       Graduation ceremony and FLTI Certification upon successful completion of the 20 week course.
