ACYI’s Substance Use Prevention and Treatment program area focuses on preventing and reducing substance use and associated risk factors in Adams County youth. In Adams County, 25% of middle and high school students surveyed in 2009 reported having at least one drink of alcohol in the past 30 days. Fourteen percent of these students reported using marijuana at least once in the past 30 days. ACYI Substance use prevention activities include educating students, parents, school district and partner agency personnel by implementing culturally relevant evidence-based programs and strategies including the LifeSkills and Guiding Good Choices Curriculum. Activities also focus on training parents and staff to identify students struggling with substance abuse and addiction and providing resources to help those students.
