ACYI’s Positive Student Behavior & Social Support program area focuses on engaging students in school and equipping schools and other agencies with the appropriate tools to prevent youth problem behaviors and to intervene with youth when necessary to better their chances of graduating from high school. In Adams County truancy rates reach as high as 15% in middle school and 19% in high school and dropout rates have doubled since 2005. Further, suspension and expulsion rates in all Adams County school districts are the highest in the Denver Metro area. School districts and community agencies report the need for consistency in programming, systems and structures to intervene with high risk youth. ACYI Positive Student Behavior & Social Support activities are aimed at reducing truancy, implementing evidence based social emotional curriculums in schools and addressing the need for alternatives for students who are at risk of being suspended or expelled from school.
